Record Store Day at Sounds

International-support-your-record-store-day: this Saturday, 22nd of April. As lovers of music as well we appreciate the international community spending a day to recognise the importance of the culture. For us in Venlo it’s a very tangible day as well, because one of The Netherlands’ biggest records stores is our friendly neighbour across the street: Sounds Record Shop. Geert & Marlies and the rest of team Sounds always do a great job of pulling out all the stops during Record Store Day, which was reason for us to highlight them.

In addition, a few of our customers also line up at 6AM each year to be the first in the door. We even heard through the grapevines that this year there might be some cooking of eggs in the early hours of the morning going on. Whatever it takes to make a party right? Calico Club is not the only store in Venlo who can attract 100+ people outside the door at ungodly hours, the line for Record Store Day is also a sight to behold. Not for discounts this time, but for special record releases. Music which hasn’t physically been released in decades. Or that special edition vinyl you won’t be able to find anywhere else after Saturday.  The party is completed by a line-up of 10 different artists performing live in Sounds: the highlight being DEWOLFF at 12AM.

International Record Store Day, a day in which we can reflect on how special the music culture can be. Because holding a vinyl record in your hand is always more special than clicking play on that just-released-single on your favourite streaming service.
