Mercado Calico - a World Cup celebration with adidas Originals
Two days of Mercado Calico. The sun was a scorcher. Every nation's colours were represented. Vrijstaat came to life in Eindhoven last weekend and our Mercado delivered exactly what it promised: the start of a World Cup summer on our terms, with adidas Originals and the kind of crowd that makes these things worth doing.
Day one hit like a freight train. The heat was relentless, the mezcal was cold and the mercado filled up fast with people ready to stake their claim on the coming tournament before a ball had even been kicked. Or well, the foosball table had steam coming off it. At the centre of it all sat Gion Berlijn's art: a cluster of old televisions wired together, looping football imagery from another era. The screens flickered, the hardware struggled against the heat and somehow that made it better. A shrine to the game built from salvaged parts, sitting in the middle of our mercado like it had always been there. Jerseys swinging through the occasional, more than welcome, breeze. DJs made everyone feel right at home, which was a rural Mexican plaza this weekend. By the time day two passed, World Cup ticket prices had been looked up and we hope a few trips have been planned.
Which brings us to our Mercado Calico jersey. Terracotta and pink resembling a tie-dye graphic, Calico Club badge sitting right where it should. Made with adidas, feeling right at home for this kind of summer. It was on backs all weekend and now it surely is going to be on yours. The Mercado Calico football jersey drops in-store & online from Tuesday. Come get it before it's gone: because if the weekend told us anything, it's that it won't hang around long.
